Waleed Rashid was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area—far from the snowy peaks he would one day grow to love. He discovered snowboarding in the Lake Tahoe resorts, where weekend powder days sparked a lifelong passion for the sport. Since then, Waleed has chased fresh tracks across some of North America’s premier mountains, including Mammoth, Whistler-Blackcomb, Park City, Aspen, Breckenridge, Vail, and beyond.
From 2016 to 2019, Waleed served as Executive Director and co-founder of the Afghanistan Snowboarding Federation. During this pivotal time, he helped build the foundation for snowboarding in Afghanistan as a tool for youth empowerment, social inclusion, and national pride. His leadership focused on creating opportunities for young Afghans to explore their potential, regardless of background or gender, while promoting peace through sport.
Waleed has also volunteered as a snowboard instructor and mountain guide, always eager to share the joy and freedom that snowboarding brings. Now based in San Diego, he continues to serve as an advisor to the Federation, supporting its vision of building a better future through snowboarding. His current mission is personal: teaching his two young daughters to ride, hoping to pass on the same sense of strength, adventure, and connection that snowboarding has given him.
